One frequent international flier never eats airline food east or south of Rome because catering kitchens overseas are not as carefully monitored for sanitation and safe handling of food as they are in this country.
Another always orders the children's plate on foreign carriers, knowing it will be given special attention .
And a third packs fruit, bread and cheese, then picnics aloft.
Although food poisoning is a distinct possibility with airline food (savvy travelers avoid aspics, creamed foods, seafood, gelatin salads, and desserts), the FDA, through the U.S public Health service Act , makes every effort to watchdog domestic airline caterers, both on the ground and in the air, to assure travelers of safe food and drink. many airlines cater to those on restricted diets, because of either health or religious taboos, but require at least twenty-four hours notice for a special menu(low-calorie, low-fat, kosher,etc.).
